MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Panfilo Lacson lauded Rep. Leandro Leviste for the entrapment of a corrupt Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) engineer who tried to bribe him P360 million to drop the probe on questionable flood control projects in his district.
Leviste, 32, founder of Solar Philippines, is the country’s youngest self-made billionaire. The neophyte lawmaker is the eldest son of Sen. Loren Legarda.
"My snappy salute to neophyte Cong. Leandro Leviste, Batangas 1st District for the successful police entrapment operation against a corrupt DPWH District Engineer who tried to bribe him with up to P360 million in 'kickbacks' from infra projects in his district. May his tribe increase," Lacson posted on X on Sunday night., This news data comes from:http://wtm-juwi-dkf-opia.ycyzqzxyh.com
The entrapment operation took place in Poblacion Taal.
The DPWH engineer may face charges for violation of Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
Leviste defeated Rep. Eric Buhain in the midterm elections last May with 268,764 votes against the latter's 91,588 votes.
Legarda said Leviste achieved the highest margin of victory against an incumbent congressman and "recorded the highest number of votes received by a candidate for the House of Representatives in the history of Batangas."
